
The ABCs of Cannabis
We all know the basics about cannabis: 4/20, the highs, fun nicknames for it, but there is so much more to learn about everyone’s favorite recreational relaxer. So we thought we’d bring ya back to your childhood and teach you more about cannabis by going a through z.

A- Acapulco Gold
A heirloom variety of cannabis originally grown in the mountains of western Mexico.
B-Bhang
Bhang is a traditional edible preparation of cannabis that originated in India. It typically comes in the form of a drink using milk.
C-Cheech & Chong
Aka the godfathers of cannabis. How could we not mention the OGs of smoking weed? These men are the backbone of the legalizing cannabis movement and the creators of the groundbreaking 1978 stoner film “Up in Smoke.”
D-dab

E-Edibles
MMMM…. Edibles refer to any food containing marijuana, THC, or CBD. It’s usually infused into a fat-soluble base, such as butter or oil, and the infusion is used to make baked goods, such as cakes, and most famously, brownies.
F-Flavonoid
These are chemical compounds present in cannabis and other plants, best known for their role in pigmentation- they provide plants with various colors to attract pollinators and potentially protect plants from UV rays, pests, and disease. Flavonoids found in cannabis are called “cannflavins” and they contribute to the overall color of the plant.
G-grinder
This is an apparatus commonly used for grinding cannabis before use. It crushes the weed into smaller pieces for a more even burn when smoking. It’s typically handheld. Many celebrities, such as Jeffree Star, have even created their own line of high quality grinders for their fans to purchase.
H-Hemp
This is the common name for the entire cannabis plant. Many things can be made out of hemp such as jewelry, bags, oils, milks, and even lotions. Hemp is defined as having less and 0.3% of THC.
I-Isopulegol
This is a terpene, or aromatic compound, present in cannabis. As the precursor to menthol, isopulegol has a distinctively fresh, minty odor.
J-jagged
This fun blast from the past term was used during the jazz-era. It meant that someone was under the influence of alcohol, cannabis, or other drugs.
K-kush
Kush is a common term we hear often when talking about cannabis. What it is exactly is a subset of indica varieties of cannabis bred from descendants of strains originating in the Hindu Kush mountain range of Afghanistan, India, and Pakistan.
L-Legalize It
Possibly the cannabis culture anthem. Peter Tosh recorded this song in 1975.
M-magic mushrooms
Any of 186 species of psilocybin fungi, or psychedelic mushrooms. Used for years to create spiritual experiences.
N- nug
Who doesn’t love nugs? A nug is a smokeable, self-contained piece of cannabis flower. Nugs can vary in size and color depending on their genetics and how they were cultivated and typically fit in the palm of one’s hand.
O-one-hitter
A pipe for smoking cannabis. It is small and designed to do just one hit at a time. One hitters often have the bowl facing straight out, away from the mouthpiece, rather than on top of the pipe, and usually don’t have a carb.
P- peyote
Peyote is a cactus found in Mexico and southwestern Texas used worldwide as an entheogen and supplement to transcendence. Peyote has been used for over 5,500 years by Native Americans for spiritual purposes. It is banned in North America except for those members of the Native American Church.
Q- QP
A QP is a quarter pound, normally of cannabis bud. Although, it can also be a quarter pound of shake. There are 4 QPs in a pound and four ounces in the QP.
R- Rastafari
A religion developed in Jamaica during the 1930s currently with an estimated 700,000 to 1 million members worldwide.
S-session
A slang name for a cannabis get-together. A session, or “sesh,” has an etiquette and can include any number of people and any type of product.
T-trichomes
Structures giving the cannabis leaf a powdery appearance and containing most of the THC. It contains the plants cannabinoids, terpenes, and other compounds.
U-Up in Smoke
1978 American movie starring the godfathers of weed Cheech and Chong. It’s credited for establishing the stoner film genre of comedy.
V- vape pen
A common type of vaporizer, vape pens are handheld, discreet, and can fit in your pocket. They usually are battery powered with a cartridge. The cartridge contains cannabis oil and a heating element.
W-wake and bake
To wake and bake is to consume cannabis early in the morning.
X-x-ray eyed
This is a term for when you are extremely under the influence of cannabis.
Y-Youth International Party
The Yippie political party, formed in 1967, organized the first American smoke-ins. It’s also responsible for the advancement in the cannabis culture during the 1960s.
Z-zip
Zip is a slang term for an ounce of cannabis flower and comes from an ounce fitting in a large Ziploc bag. In recreational states, a zip is usually the most an adult without a medical card can purchase in a day.
